  1. The museum is open daily 10am – 5pm. Closed 24th-26th and 31 December and 1st January. Admission Charges are Adult £5.50, Child £4.00, Concession £4.50, Family (2+3) £18.00, Parking £1.

  3. The Thackray Museum was Visitor Attraction of the Year in the category for under 100,000 visitors in the Excellence in England Tourism Awards 2004 in association with Enjoy England.
  4. The museum holds a Sandford Award for Heritage Education which is awarded to heritage properties where the provision for schools or other educational groups is deemed to meet the criteria of excellence laid down by the Trust. The Award is not competitive.
  5. The Thackray Museum opened in 1997 and is housed in a former 19th century workhouse that is now a Grade 2 listed building. The museum is on two floors and has nine permanent galleries housing imaginative displays on a wide range of health and medicine topics drawn from the past 200 years. Two of the most popular attractions are a recreated Victorian street in Leeds that demonstrates the poor sanitary conditions in which people lived - complete with smells and sounds! – and the Life Zone!.
  6. The Thackray Museum is hugely popular with families and schools with around 75,000 visitors to the museum annually. Many of the museum exhibits are linked to subjects in the National Curriculum and schoolchildren visit from as far afield as the Isle of Man and Scotland.
  7. The temporary exhibition spaces at the Thackray Museum have housed a number of fascinating exhibitions on topics ranging from leeches to anthrax. The current exhibitions are ‘Body Parts: New for Old’ and ‘Molecules for Life’.
